This was a small line of strength pieces utilizing the existing Matrix VERSA design language. My involvement was primarily on the front end for the more design-focused products: the functional trainer and leg press. Below is early development and concepts emphasizing ease of use and stress reduction on physically impaired or injured individuals practicing PT.
Amidst the sketch waves I spent some time in the shop mocking up a sample of the functional trainer stack. This required the largest departure from the traditional strength model and needed testing for weight loading, balance testing, transportation, and exercise valuation under real-life circumstances.
The adjustable wood sample led to the initial concept direction. Some quality of life features were costed out for the product to remain market competitive but some would not have been possible without validation from the hand-made wood buck.
