The E50 project when it began in late 2014 was originally destined to be part of a Vision line released. About halfway the entire cardio line was rebranded to the newly formed Matrix Retail, whose core philosophy is commercial grade quality (high end) equipment for the home. This elliptical incorporates new suspension technology to allow for the most space-saving yet comfortable experience on the market. I oversaw design and played a strong role in pushing the factory and engineering to achieve challenging safety regulation goals.
The design element most unique to the E50 are the sheet metal arms that connect the pedals to the internal crank and outer arm joint. These allow for the overall footprint to compact over a foot smaller than a traditional retail elliptical without compromise to feel. I focused most of my energy designing the shroud to look substantial and bold, while fighting for tolerance achievement so the central slots would not appear so "hotdog down a hallway" just to meet safety regulations. This effort led to a more refined and sleek final product.
